You can change both the starting number and how numbering restarts by following these steps if you are using Word 97 or Word 2000: Normally, numbering begins at one and progresses upward. As you work with your document, it’s possible to disturb the required formatting. The Graduate School has specific requirements for how pages are numbered: Page numbers must be displayed at the bottom of the page, either centered or right-justified. You will need to enter your citations manually in the correct style, or use bibliographic management software that will integrate with Word, such as EndNote or RefWorks. The template is not configured to use a particular citation style (APA, MLA, etc.). Numbering and placement must be consistent throughout the document. Notes can be placed at the bottom of the page (footnotes), at the end of a chapter, or at the end of the document (endnotes). Notes may be numbered consecutively throughout the entire manuscript or consecutively within each chapter. Use Arabic numerals (1, 2, 3) to indicate a note in the text. To allow for binding a personal paper copy, the left margin may be set to 1.5 inches by following these steps: MarginsĪll margins should be 1 inch, and are set that way in the template. Note: Decide early on what line spacing you want, because this is difficult to change throughout the entire document. In the Paragraph section of the Home tab, pull down the menu next to the Spacing icon.To change to-double spacing, follow these steps: Long quotations, footnotes, multi-line captions, and bibliographic citations may be single-spaced. Line spacing in the template is set to 1.5. See the Styles section for details on how to change the font or font size.
